Our Facility
The Biospecimen Repository & Processing Laboratory (BSR) is a core facility in the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute (LTRI) at Mount Sinai Hospital.
The BSR is accredited by the College of American Pathologist (CAP) and operates with best practice standards for biobanking.
Our facility and staff operations provide customized specimen processing services and is a certified CL2 space which includes tissue culture, freezer, and robotics rooms.
The BSR has controlled, restricted access to 2,808 square feet of lab space and equipment. We are equipped with nineteen liquid nitrogen freezers and eight -80° freezers with room for additional cryogenic storage capacity. Redundant freezer alarm systems are in place to ensure accurate, fail-safe monitoring with dedicated on-call staff to respond to any alarms 24/7, 365 days a year.
In place is a comprehensive LIMS to manage specimen related data and inventory tracking. The BSR has a document management system for all SOPs.
The BSR laboratory is equipped with an automated DNA extractor and plate reader for high volume biospecimen processing, as well as an automated workstation for biofluid aliquoting. All laboratory equipment undergoes annual maintenance, calibration, and validation/qualification with a progressive Quality Management System (QMS).
