Marina Gertsenstein, research associate - (marina.gertsenstein<at>phenogenomics.ca)
Marina has been working with Andras since 1992 in the Transgenic (TG) Core facility and since 1994 in his lab. She has generated multiple genetically modified mouse strains and has coordinated the operation of the TG Core, optimizing existing procedures and introducing new techniques. Marina derived and characterized mouse ES cell lines currently used for genetic manipulations around the world, including the Canadian component of the international mouse knockout effort (NorCOMM). She was part of the Nagy lab team that derived the first Canadian human ES cells CA1 and CA2. Marina was instrumental in the design of the Toronto Centre for Phenogenomics (TCP), coordinating the amalgamation of two Transgenic Facilities and their move to the new building. Since July 2007, Marina has been overseeing the operation of the TCP TG core, which offers a variety of transgenic services.
