Cell-based therapies holds enormous potential in treating previously incurable diseases and injuries. To me, it is such a privilege to be a PhD student in Nagy lab here in Toronto and be involved in making universal cell products in the field of Regenerative Medicine. My current project focuses on generating ‘’off-the shelf’’ hematopoietic cells for allogeneic cell therapies.
My interest in stem cell research was ignited back in 2016 when I started working as a research assistant in our satellite lab at the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute (ARMI) at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. My project at that time was to assist in developing cell-based therapies in stroke and multiple sclerosis disease model. I remember fondly my early days in our Australian lab, when I first started learning how to culture human ESCs and then moving onto culturing more challenging cell types such as marmoset monkey iPS cells. To this date, I felt so fortunate to be given the opportunities to learn how to troubleshoot and to simply be able to do amazing science in the lab. These daily excitement and challenges never ceased since.
Besides science, I also enjoy gardening, playing board games, sewing, cycling and e-scootering. Being an Australian living in these unbearably cold Canadian winters, I found my fun in learning how to skate, which makes the bone-chilly days much more cheerful.
