Bremner Lab

Kim Dorval

Kim and daughter Emma.

Kim's lovely Puppies.

Kim was born in North York, a suburb just outside of Toronto. Not wanting to venture too far, she pursued her Bachelor of Science, Biochemistry, at the University of Waterloo in southern Ontario, home of the largest Oktoberfest outside of Germany. When asked why she chose Waterloo, she replied, "I have a high affinity for beer." Finishing her Bachelor's in 1997, she resisted the allure of big industry and instead chose a path of poor pay, long hours and general misery - a.k.a. graduate student life. With the help of Dr. Rod Bremner, and copious amounts of beer, she began studying the finer aspects of the homeodomain protein Chx10. In 2002 she escaped science briefly to have a baby. Regrettably, a baby proved to be even more work than her PhD, so she returned to the lab to finish her degree while hubby Ray stayed at home to mind little Emma. Kim is expected to defend in October 2004 and rumour has it she's been short listed for a position at Wal-Mart as a greeter.
