Signalling components include SAPKs, SEK1, MEKK, MLK3, HPK and GC kinase. Targets include c-Jun and ATF2. Here is a clickable image map describing the components of the three known mammalian MAPK-related pathways. Glycogen synthase kinase-3 biologyStudy of glycogen synthase kinase-3 (GSK-3) continues to unearth surprises and we are actively investigating its function in diverse species using genetics, biochemistry and cell biology. Pages detailing the regulation, substrates and physiological functions of this kinase and its importance in insulin and Wnt signalling are in preparation. GSK-3 is specifically inhibited by lithium. Is this kinase a therapeutic target for bipolar disorders? See the following recent publications for further details. Nuclear OncoproteinsIn particular, post translational control of transcription factors that are also oncogenes such as c-Jun, c-Fos and c-Myc. Protein kinasesA protein kinase resource web site devoted to protein kinases has recently been set up at the University of San Diego Supercomputing Centre. It's full of useful information. Here's a list of all the known budding yeast protein kinases extracted from the yeast genome database (with links to the genes). A comprehensive list of all protein kinases (720K) has also been compiled by the folks at the protein kinase resource (contains nearly 3,713 entries!). ApoptosisThe stress-activated protein kinase pathways play many roles in cells including affecting cell viability in response to physical and chemical insult.
